Okona ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website okonaonline.com and related services. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you use our platform.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly when you create an account, subscribe to our service, or contact us. This includes your email address, display name, and payment information. When you use our platform, we automatically collect technical data such as your browser type, device information, IP address, and usage patterns including pages visited and games played.

Player accounts. You can browse the Okona app without an account. If you create one, we keep your email address, when you joined and signed in, whether you have verified your email, and, if you subscribe to Okona Plus, your membership (plan, status and renewal date) and a Stripe customer reference. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.

Phones and controllers. A phone you use as a controller keeps a random identifier in its own browser so it can reconnect to the same seat; it is not linked to your name or account. The emoji you pick for a seat lasts only for that visit.

Developer accounts. If you build games for Okona, we also keep your studio name, the details you gave when you asked for access, your games and their builds, and your API keys (stored only as a secure hash).

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide and improve our services, process subscriptions and payments, communicate with you about your account, analyze how our platform is used, and ensure the security and integrity of our service. We also use aggregated, anonymized gameplay data — such as session counts and active playtime — to provide engagement analytics to the developers whose games you play and to improve the platform. If you subscribe to Okona Plus, we also record which games your account plays and for how long, so that your subscription can be shared with the developers of the games you play; we never tell developers who you are.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use local storage and cookies to remember your preferences (such as your chosen theme), maintain your login session, and analyze site traffic. We do not serve advertising.

Third-Party Services

Our platform integrates with the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

  • Firebase (Google) — Authentication, database, and cloud storage
  • Stripe — Payment processing for subscriptions
  • Google Cloud Platform — Hosting and infrastructure
  • Resend — Sending our emails (account verification and password resets, support replies, developer notices) and receiving mail sent to our addresses
  • Anthropic — Helps us draft replies to support emails; a person reviews every reply before it is sent

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Raw screen-analytics events are kept for 30 days and then reduced to daily aggregates (impressions, sessions, controller joins — no personal data). The play time we record for Okona Plus subscribers (which games, how many minutes each day) is kept as the basis of the developers' revenue share until you delete your account; monthly totals that no longer identify you stay in our financial records. Records of emails we send you are kept for 180 days; support conversations are kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, your login and your player record are removed immediately, and an Okona Plus membership is cancelled at once (without a refund); if you are a developer, your studio, games, uploaded builds and API keys are removed too. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires, and anonymized aggregate analytics may be retained.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication through Firebase, and PCI-compliant payment processing through Stripe. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure.

Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us so we can remove it promptly.

Your Rights

You can see and manage your account at any time from the Account page in the Okona app (developers also from the developer portal), and you can delete your account yourself there (Delete account), which permanently removes your data as described above. You may also contact us to request a copy of your data, to correct it, or to ask questions about our privacy practices.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
